Kelly called Croft and waited for her to pick up. When Croft picked up, Kelly said, “Genetrix City Military Base, Voltaire wants to collect another one.”
“Why are you calling me, Kelly?” Croft said. “You can tell me later.”
“Voltaire asked for you,” Kelly said. “He also wants you to bring Petra. We are in the public access parking lot.”
“Fine,” Croft said.
“Silver car in the parking lot,” Kelly said as she ended the call. She heard a knock on the window and looked outside to see the shadow of Voltaire’s clear cane on the ground. Kelly climbed out of the car and opened the door for Voltaire before she climbed into the driver’s seat.
“The body is disposed of,” Voltaire said as he played with the stolen wedding ring. “Bring me to roll call. It is in the big gray building around here”
“I told the others to meet us in this parking lot.”
“We’ll be quick.”
Out of curiosity, Kelly drove Voltaire to a cold gray building that was six stories high with blue tinted windows where soldiers were gathering. Voltaire got out of the car and followed the voices into the bulky monstrous building so he could listen to the roll call. He listened to each person’s voice as they called out in response to their name. Voltaire focused on the sound of each person’s voice and name. He left after the daily assignments were announced and joined Kelly in the car.
“Did you find him?” Kelly asked as she looked back at Voltaire with vivid interest.
“Fable Bayan,” Voltaire said “I would know his voice anywhere.
“Let’s pick up the team.” Kelly said, deeply impressed as she drove back to the parking lot where Croft, Petra, and Ben where waiting.
