The Unseen- Night Lights (Part 5)

“Home is not the one tame place in the world of adventure. It is the one wild place in the world of rules and set tasks.”

  • Gilbert K. Chesterton

“Get Gabe into the kitchen.” Kelly said pointing her shot gun at the three intruders, “as for you guys get out. We are not your hostages and we are not an easy score.”

The masked gang members laughed and all three pointed their guns at her. The guns gleamed in the dim candle light. The leader said “we have something a little more deadly then all those rubber bullets you have there, mama.”

Kelly glared at the three men. The candle light had given away her ruse. Petra had told her that the Fidelis gang was a branch of the Golpista gang that had been disowned because they brought their own personal grudges into the philosophy. This had turned it into something far more violent then what the core beliefs entailed.

Petra had warned Kelly to stay away from them because while they were small in numbers, every member was extremely loyal, well trained, and highly organized. She waited until Gabe and Mallory were in the kitchen with the door firmly locked behind them before she sprang into action. Once in the next room, Mallory hugged his son close to him as shots rang out in the next room. They huddled together in the dark.

“It is okay,” Mallory said “your mother will protect us.”

“Who’s protecting her?” Gabe asked in tears.

“Gabe,” Mallory whispered “mom is protecting mom.”

Kelly kicked open the back door and threw the three defeated men into the river lit by the moon’s harsh light. She watched them run away before she closed the door.
