The Unseen- Verbose (Part 2)

“Poetry: the best words in the best order.”

  • Samuel Taylor Coleridge

“Hey Dru,” Mattie said. “Do you ever wonder what your life’s purpose is all about?”

“I try not to be too deep, my sweet,” Drusilla said. “If I did, I would go insane. I say that shallowness is underrated.”

“I have a big corporation, I’m loaded,” Mattie said, “but I don’t know what to do with it, or if I want it. You know?”

“Wealth has given you freedom.” Drusilla said “you can do whatever you want. Most people do not want to be free. They wish only to feel free as real freedom always comes at a price. Enjoy this rather than struggle under it, as one cursed with responsibly does my darling.”

“I don’t want you to give me the poor little rich girl speech, but I feel like it is all packaged and planned out for me and I have royally failed. People are getting hurt working for me. I don’t know why. We paid for safety checks.”

“Life is predestined,” said Drusilla. “Everyone will suffer and die. That is a fact. Death is where everyone is going no matter what they do, my dear. No one can just decide to live forever. Immortality was not even a choice I was given. However if I die today believing there is nothing after death, just a final end to it all, then I can die happy my darling.”

“Wow,” Mattie said. “That is deep.”

“That is the truth, sweet girl,” Drusilla said. “Now, be still and quiet. How lovely you look…”

“I am disgusting,” Mattie said with a laugh in her voice.

“Hush,” said Drusilla. “You are young, and when I look into your eyes or hold your body, I feel your warmth. You are like a belladonna bud that is flowering into its prime. Beauty is fleeting and to not admire one’s allure is a crime.”

“Okay,” Mattie said. “I am not big on poetry, but I think you are saying I look good.”

Drusilla laughed. She picked up a Chinese apricot and fed it to Mattie as she whispered: “you may have the opportunity to find your purpose dear girl, because someone needs to bring all of us together. Voltaire has failed and created deep divides, but I believe if you have the resolve you could be the one to rule us darling.”

Mattie laughed and they began to eat. Afterwards, the women fell asleep on the blanket.
