The Unseen- Sick Day (Part 4)

“The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.”

Three walked to the door, Petra sighed with relief. Then the door opened and Maria entered. Petra groaned. Three seemed surprised when Maria walked up to him, took off her wedding band and held it in her palm for him.

“Take it.” Maria said “I am tired of being cheated on and lied to so I’m leaving. Did you ever even love me?”

“Of course, I got my hearing aid back just in time to hear his marital issues,” Petra whispered to the door crack.

“Maria this is a mistake,” Three said “I never ever thought about cheating on you again.”

“Just stop talking.” Maria said “I want you to take this ring and put it…”

Petra removed her hearing aid before she crawled back to the computer’s television screens. Kelly was eating lunch with her family. “Hey Kelly,” Petra said to Kelly’s image.

Suddenly, Kelly disappeared from all the screens. Petra frowned as she checked Kelly’s car, the yard, the bedroom, living room, but then she could not find the bathroom. No one’s bathroom has a camera, Petra realized. After a moment, she opened up Voltaire’s file and began looking at the pictures. She picked up a picture of a destroyed hotel and a map. The map had the location of the hotel. Petra memorized the map and then decided it was time to start ease dropping again.

“Wait,” Maria said “why did you leave the vault door open?”

“I didn’t,” Three said “baby have some faith in me.”

Petra dived under the computer table, but did not fit under it. There was nowhere else to hide. Petra stood up in the middle of the room and decided that if they opened the door she would scream the words “surprise sexy!” If she had any luck, Maria would think she was the mistress and would distract Three long enough for Petra to grab Croft and run.

“I do not care.” Maria said “I married you out of shame. Fine, I will keep the ring, but you will regret the last thirty years as much as I do.”

“I do,” Three promised.

“Not yet.” Maria said and Petra heard the door opening and slamming.

Petra heard silence afterwards. She walked over to the door and peered out to see Three holding his head in his hands, facing the door.
